Step into the legacy of ancient Chinese architecture with the Drunk Weng Pavilion Mortise and Tenon Building Block Set. This stunning China pavilion model captures the elegance and wisdom of traditional tenon architecture. This immersive DIY experience allows builders to recreate one of the Four Famous Pavilions in China. A historic Chinese pavilion closely tied to the legacy of renowned scholar Ouyang Xiu.
? Inspired by History: A Pavilion Above the Spring

In the sixth year of the Qingli era of the Northern Song Dynasty, Ouyang Xiu was appointed governor of Chuzhou. Seeking solace in nature, he befriended Zen Master Zhixian at Lángyá Temple. There, he built a Chinese pavilion at the foot of Mount Lángyá. There, he composed poetry and penned the iconic essay “Record of the Drunk Weng Pavilion”, coining the nickname “Drunk Weng.” In it, he wrote: “The drinker’s mind is not on the wine; it lies in the beauty of the mountains and rivers.” This essay immortalized the Drunk Weng Pavilion, earning it the title “Number One Pavilion Under Heaven.” To honor this legacy, we conducted on-site research in Anhui. We faithfully recreated the structure using mortise and tenon building techniques, echoing the phrase: “A pavilion gracefully perched above the spring.”
? Traditional Mortise and Tenon Craftsmanship
This Mortise and Tenon Building Block Set uses ancient mortise tenon blocks. It allows the pavilion to stand firmly without nails or glue. Mortise and tenon joints are a hallmark of traditional Chinese architecture. They emphasize precision and artistry handed down from ancient craftsmen.
